August Reading Roundup

A novel about a young girl of Dominican heritage, wanting to break free of her strict and religious mother and express herself in slam poetry. This novel is exceptional in form and content. Brilliant, moving and compelling

My Life as an Alphabet by Barry Jonsberg

A book recently adapted to screen, this feel good middle grade full of whimsy and heart. Memorable characters pepper the pages this story is written with humour and charm and is feel-good without being sentimental. can't wait to see the movie!

Compelling, disturbing and funny! This book about modern young women in Nigeria. It's the story of sisters - the older being responsible for the younger - the older bitter and the (undeserving) favouritism and fortune of the younger, but this book also manages to comment on social media and modern life with wry satire.
